Pure Pigment 0.44 Orange
DESCRIPTION
What is Pure Pigment 0.44?
Pure Pigment 0.44 Orange by Code Zero is a reflect cream with a high concentration of pigment and an intensifying action, in a 60 ml tube: it is added to a Vibrant Color shade to make a copper reflect more intense or to bring orange into the mix. On its own it has no effect: the Code Zero leaflet specifies that it is used only mixed with the colour cream, here Vibrant Color, at most 20% of the cream. On the Code Zero Color Index orange, the sector of the copper shades, is opposite blue: a small amount of 0.44 tones down a blue-grey cast and warms the result.

New to Vibrant Color? How to read the code of a Pure Pigment
Vibrant Color is Code Zero's permanent colour cream, with ammonia and vegetal liposomes: more than 100 shades in 100 ml tubes. The digit before the point is the level, from 1 (black) to 10 (ultra light blond); the digits after the point are the reflect. The Pure Pigments are not shades but additives in 60 ml tubes: the 0 in place of the level means they have no level of their own, and the doubled digit is the reflect at its most intense.
| Reflect | Meaning |
|---|---|
| .0 | natural |
| .1 | ash |
| .2 | violet (irisé) |
| .3 | golden |
| .4 | copper |
| .5 | mahogany |
| .6 | red |
| .7 | tobacco |
| .8 | beige |
| .9 | blue |
The five Pure Pigments are 0.22 violet, 0.33 yellow, 0.44 orange, 0.62 red violet and 0.66 red. They do not lighten: the lift comes from the Vibrant shade and the Oxidizer.
How much 0.44 to add
The Code Zero leaflet sets the maximum: Pure Pigment up to 20% of the colour cream, that is 10 ml in 50 ml of Vibrant Color. Below that, the amount depends on how much orange is wanted: the pigment is concentrated, so a few millilitres already change the result. The amounts below the maximum are salon practice, not Code Zero data: check them with a strand test.
| 0.44 in 50 ml of Vibrant Color | Share of the cream | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 2-3 ml | about 5% | A touch of orange: warms a result that is too cool and tones down a blue-grey cast |
| 5 ml | 10% | A visible copper reflect, for example on a natural shade |
| 10 ml (maximum) | 20% | The most intense orange Code Zero allows, for copper and fashion shades |
| More than 10 ml | Over 20% | Not to be used: beyond the maximum given by Code Zero |
Pure Pigment 0.44 does not lighten: lift and white hair coverage depend on the Vibrant shade and on the Oxidizer chosen for it. On a lot of white hair the orange shows more strongly: do a strand test. Used pure, without colour cream, it has no effect (Code Zero leaflet).
Mixes with Vibrant Color and Oxidizer
In the Code Zero example the Oxidizer equals the colour cream plus the pigment: 50 ml of Vibrant Color + 10 ml of Pure Pigment with 60 ml of Oxidizer 10, 20, 30 or 40 vol, chosen for the lift or the result wanted.
| Vibrant Color | Pure Pigment 0.44 | Oxidizer |
|---|---|---|
| 50 ml | 10 ml (20%, maximum) | 60 ml (Code Zero example) |
| 50 ml | 5 ml (10%) | 55 ml |
| 50 ml | 2-3 ml (about 5%) | 52-53 ml |
| 30 ml | 3 ml (10%) | 33 ml |
Worked cases follow: a more intense copper blond, a warmer dark blond and a blue-grey cast toned down.
Pure Pigment 0.44 with 7.4: a more intense copper blond
Starting point: natural level 7, without white hair, for a client who wants a brighter, more visible copper than 7.4 alone.
Formula: 50 ml of Vibrant Color 7.4 + 10 ml of Pure Pigment 0.44 + 60 ml of Oxidizer 20 vol.
Processing time: 35-40 minutes, as the Code Zero leaflet indicates.
Result: a blond with a more intense copper reflect than 7.4 alone. Do a strand test first.
Pure Pigment 0.44 with 6.0: a warmer dark blond
Starting point: natural level 6 with up to half white hair, for a client who finds the natural dark blond too dull.
Formula: 50 ml of Vibrant Color 6.0 + 5 ml of Pure Pigment 0.44 + 55 ml of Oxidizer 20 vol.
Processing time: 35-40 minutes.
Result: a dark blond with a soft copper warmth. White hair coverage comes from the 6.0 with 20 vol, not from the pigment.
Pure Pigment 0.44 against a blue-grey cast
Starting point: blond, level 7, with an unwanted blue-grey cast, for example after an ash shade that took too strongly.
Formula: 50 ml of Vibrant Color 7.0 + 2-3 ml of Pure Pigment 0.44 + 52-53 ml of Oxidizer 10 vol.
Processing time: up to 35-40 minutes, checking by sight.
Result: the blue-grey cast toned down by the orange, opposite on the Color Index. Do a strand test first.
How to use Pure Pigment 0.44
- Wear gloves. Use a non-metal bowl and a plastic brush, both clean.
- Put the Vibrant Color cream in the bowl and add Pure Pigment 0.44, at most 20% of the cream (10 ml in 50 ml).
- Add the Oxidizer at 10, 20, 30 or 40 vol, chosen for the lift or the result wanted (in the Code Zero example 60 ml for 50 ml of cream + 10 ml of pigment); mix well and use the mix straight away.
- Apply as the Vibrant shade requires, on dry, unwashed hair; processing time 35-40 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, then wash scalp and hair gently with Color Fixx pH 5.5 shampoo.
Expert colourist tips for Pure Pigment 0.44
- Start low: the pigment is concentrated: begin with a few millilitres and increase only after a strand test, never above 20% of the cream.
- Never on its own: without colour cream Pure Pigment has no effect: Code Zero specifies it is used only mixed with the colour cream.
- Orange against blue: on the Code Zero Color Index orange is opposite blue, so 0.44 tones down a blue-grey cast. It does not cool: it warms.
- Not in an ash shade: orange and the blue of an ash shade (.1) cancel each other out and can leave a dull, muddy result: add 0.44 to natural, golden or copper shades.
New to the salon: quick guide and common mistakes
The words on this page. Pure Pigment: a concentrated reflect cream, added to a colour cream. Reflect: the shade of colour on top of the level (violet, golden, copper...). Vol: the strength of the Oxidizer (10 vol = 3%, 20 vol = 6%, 30 vol = 9%, 40 vol = 12%). Strand test: a test on a small section before the whole head.
Before you start. Choose the Vibrant shade for the level and lift needed, then decide how much orange to add. Do a strand test with the exact amounts.
Common mistakes. Using 0.44 on its own. Going above 20% of the cream. Leaving the pigment out when measuring the Oxidizer. Expecting the pigment to lighten. Using a metal bowl.

Pure Pigment 0.44 compared
- vs Pure Pigment 0.66 Red: the red pigment: deeper and redder. 0.44 is the orange, towards copper.
- vs Vibrant Color 7.4 Copper Blond: a shade with its own level and lift, mixed 1:1, that covers white hair with 20 vol. 0.44 has no level: it only adds orange to a shade.
- vs Vibrant Color 90.4 Superbleaching Copper Blond: lightens natural hair by up to 4-5 tones and deposits copper in one step, mixed 1:1.5. 0.44 does not lighten.
