Gems C Clear is the transparent base of the Gems Collection: it softens the intensity of the colour masks and turns any shade into a pastel or a more delicate version of itself, without ammonia and without touching the natural base.
Use and safety note
Gems C Clear contains no pigment: it dilutes, it does not lighten and it does not remove or correct colour. Mixed with a Gems shade it reduces intensity and adds transparency, but it does not change the tonal direction of that shade. Pastel results need a light, evenly pre-lightened base: the more Clear there is in the mix, the lighter the base has to be, and on a mid to dark base a diluted shade leaves nothing visible.
Carry out a strand test and a sensitivity test 48 hours before application, using the exact mixture you intend to apply. If you are unsure about your starting level, consult clichAIr or a professional before use.
What is Gems C Clear
Gems C Clear is a clear, pigment-free base that mixes with any Gems Collection colour mask to create ultra-soft pastel shades or to tone down an intense hue, without compromising shine or condition. It works as a dilution medium: it lowers the pigment concentration of the mixture, so the shade deposits with less saturation while staying the same shade. Blue Lotus extract brings antioxidant and moisturising properties, Baobab strengthens the hair fibre, and Polyquaternium-7 and -11 improve manageability for soft, easy-to-style hair.
Who it is for
Built for colourists who want full control over intensity: custom made-to-measure tones, pastel versions of any Gems shade, and softened results on clients who do not want a saturated colour. It is also the safest way to test a bold shade at low intensity before committing to it. Since it works by dilution and not by lifting, the base decides the outcome: a pastel is only visible on a light, evenly pre-lightened canvas free of residual warmth. Formulated for professional salon use. At-home application is possible when your starting level matches the result you expect.

How to use
- Choose the ratio and mix thoroughly in a non-metallic bowl: 90% Gems C Clear + 10% colour for an ultra-light pastel, or 50% + 50% to soften an intense shade.
- Check the starting level before applying: the diluted shade deposits without lightening, so a pastel only reads on a light, evenly pre-lightened base with no residual warmth.
- Wash with a gentle shampoo and towel-dry to remove excess water. Do not apply conditioner or masks beforehand, so the pigment adheres perfectly.
- Apply the mixture evenly to damp hair with a wide-tooth comb. Wear gloves during application. Leave on 5-10 minutes for a subtle reflective effect, or 15-20 minutes for a fuller deposit, checking visually since porous hair takes up pigment faster.
- Emulsify with a little water and massage gently for an even result, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until it runs clear. To seal the colour, apply Stabilizer pH 3.5.

FAQ
How do I get a pastel? Use more Gems C Clear: 90% Clear + 10% colour gives an ultra-light pastel, and the more Clear you add, the softer the shade. Remember that the base has to follow: a very diluted pastel needs a very light, even canvas.
Does adding Gems C Clear make a shade cooler? No. It reduces intensity and adds transparency, but the tonal direction of the shade stays exactly the same. To move cooler, choose a cool shade or add one to the mixture.
Can I use it on its own? Yes, as a pigment-free conditioning mask. It will not lighten, remove or correct an existing colour.
Does it contain ammonia? No. It is ammonia-free and semi-permanent, and no oxidiser is required.
What should I do after rinsing? Spray Stabilizer pH 3.5 onto towel-dried hair to close the cuticle and lock in the colour.
